PHYSICAL HEALTH:

  • The American Heart Association reports that black individuals are more likely to develop heart disease and have higher mortality rates from heart-related conditions.

  • Research indicates that black women have higher rates of breast cancer mortality compared to women of other racial/ethnic groups.

MENTAL HEATH:

  • The Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health states that black adults are more likely to experience feelings of persistent sadness, hopelessness, and other symptoms of depression but are less likely to receive mental health treatment compared to white adults.

  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reports that black individuals are disproportionately affected by socioeconomic factors that contribute to increased stress and limited access to mental health care

FINANCIAL HEALTH:

  • According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median household income for black households in the United States is lower compared to other racial/ethnic groups.

  • The Federal Reserve's 2019 Survey of Consumer Finances reveals that the median wealth of black families is significantly lower compared to white families, highlighting existing wealth disparities.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH:

  • It is important to note that spiritual well-being and practices can play a significant role in overall health and resilience.

SOCIAL HEALTH/RELATIONSHIPS

  • Numerous studies have highlighted the positive effects of strong social connections and healthy relationships on overall well-being.

  • Research published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that individuals with strong social support networks have better mental and physical health outcomes.
